Interested in joining LIOS? Ophthalmologists of good moral character who are licensed to practice medicine and surgery by the State of New York, have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education approved ophthalmology residency, are Board certified or Board eligible, and have been in practice for one year in Queens and/or Long Island shall be eligible for membership in the Society. Applicants for membership must be sponsored by a member-in-good-standing and thereafter may be approved by the Council with an affirmative vote of two-thirds of that body. Affirmation by three-fourths of the members present and voting at any regular meeting of the Society shall constitute election to the Society provided names of candidates have been published prior to said meeting.
